Mr I. W. Raymond, late ot Invercargill, andnow of London (says an exchange), is not a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but he declares that in 20 years Australia and New Zealand will have 20 millions of people for every one million there now.
A story is going the rounds of the papers, and has been made the subject of comment, to the effect that the Hon. R. McKenzie motored\>ast the tollgate at Inaha, refusing to pay toll. We are not apologists for the hon. gentleman's action, but it ought to be stated that though quite unjustifiably he questioned liability to pay toll and was evidently annoyed at what took place, he did eventually pay the toll fees, sending his secretary back with the money if we are correctly informed.
