The Winter Show in Auckland was opened this afternoon, and will continue throughout this week.

It is said that Mr D. Gardner, proprietor and editor oi the " Hot Lakes Chronicle," Rotorua, may be a candidate for Parliament in the Opposition interest at the next general election.

At the parade of the No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles on Friday evening there was a fair attendance, Captain Dean being in command. Captain Carpenter, A.A.G. of the Auckland military district, was present, and he put the company through a number of drill movements.

The re-opening of the Choral Hall as a skating rink on Friday evening attracted a large attendance of lovers of roller skating, and apparently they thoroughly enjoyed their evening's amusement. The manager was courteous and obliging, the skates provided were satisfactory, and the floor was in good order. The rink t will be open again to-morrow afternoon and evening.

Paeroa butchers give notice that the price of meat will be raised as from the 24th inst. owing to the high price of stock, and on account of the Arbitration Court awards for labour and shorter hours. The shops in Paeroa will be open in future irom 6.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., except that the closing hour on Wednesday will be 12.30 p.m., and on Saturdays 9 p.m. Orders must be given the day before delivery.
