CORRESPONDENCE.
COUNTY REPRESENTATION.
[To ,the Editor.]
Slß—This question has been much discussed through the' columns of your p«per, but so far only one side has been heard, and the ftlangaiti settlers are represented as a much wronged body. 1 think it would be as well if the true facts of the matter were made known. When I supported the scheme brought forward by the chairman I did so after due consideration for the best interests of the various districts in the riding that I represented (which was nearly half the area of the whole County.) The northern portion of the Waitoa Riding was put into the newly constituted Netherton Riding, and that portion between the hills and Waihoii River was added to the Karangahake Riding. By this courf£<
the Mangaiti settlers have everythmj-fi^ gain and nothing to lose. The distncgl is served principally by two mairycMqtyh' both of which are of great impodpjl^c^f. the goldfields and practically, no;ftoport> ance to the rest ot the Waito*'^fcjfag. Again, by being added to the KarMigW hake Riding they belong to the-t#jjpin^ that produces nearly half the rev«;trtte o£; the whole County, and they will, fclsift have three representatives insfcMw^bjf, only one. The statement that tb/ey N|nH be practically disfranchised is nonsense. There will always be a consmtffDle number of candidates for the K^riiahake Riding, and Mangaiti and ityiiaicii will be strong enough to have ftfAhsiderable influence on the poll. Thinking ... . "- *t ■ you in anticipation, I am, etc.^- .tr^ • . F. M. ST*j£*3E.
