It seems that the *harem skirt sensation has been completely outdone in Waihi by a certain lady visitor, who appears in the correct male attire, and. accompanied by a girl friend, manages to obtain a large amount of amusement for themselves. The girl triend introduces her friends of both sexes to her manly escort, and "he " in turn talks business to the boys and charms the girls. No doubt the experiences of the " young man " must prove very interesting when "he" has just been introduced to a charming young thing who brings to bearing upon one of her own sex the battery of her graces. Meanwhile the enterprising couple must be having a most entertaining time. —-Waihi Telegraph.
As an object of admiration the sixfoot guardsman is out of date, according to the views expressed by Dr Arthur Keith, conservator of the museum of the Royal College ot Surgeons, in the course of a lecture on " Pigmies," at the Royal Institution. "We all want to be tall," he said, " but the ideal of great stature is an absolutely wrong one. This is the time of the small man. More than ever before in the world's history, energy, alertness, and quickness of brain are required, and these are characteristics of short men rather than of tall. Great stature brings its burdens, and giants are usually dull of wit."
