Mr John Walls, " the working man's butcher," advertises that he is still in Paeroa.
Captain Carpenter, A.A.G. of the Auckland military district, was in Paeroa yesterday on business connected with the Defence Department.
The new sale yards at Hikutaia are now nearly completed. They will be up-to-date in every respect, and will undoubtedly be the finest in the province outside Hamilton.
A good fresh supply of oysters has just been obtained by Mr T. Cato, and Paeroa residents can now obtain these favourite shellfish at the very reasonable charge of two shillings per bottle.
The Railway Department notifies that tickets at excursion rates will be issued to Auckland from the 20th to the 26th inst., available lor return until June 3rd. The excursion tickets will not be available for;the Auckland-Wellington express trains.
The Postal Department has approved of the erection of a posting box at Hill Street. The clearances are to be made daily at 9.45 a.m., 3.5 p.m., and 6.20 p.m. The box will be affixed to Mr Blyth's store as soon as it arrives from Wellington.
A lecture on the social work of the Salvation Army will be delivered in the Paeroa Presbyterian Church next Wednesday evening by Colonel Birkenshaw, commander of the Salvation Army forces m the North island. The chair will be taken by Mr E. W. Porritt. The lecture is highly interesting, and no doubt there will be a good attendance on Wednesday evening.
