THE KNYVETT CASE.
FINDING OF COURT-
MARTIAL.
DISMISSAL CONFIRMED.
The finding of the court-martial in the Knyvett case, it is understood, Has reached the Acting-Defence Minister (the Hon. George Fowlds), and has been forwarded by him to His Excellency, the Governor. Until the Governor's assent is given the decision will not be officially announced, but it is gathered that the Court has found the accused guilty, and has confirmed the sentence of dismissal. It is understood, however, that if Captain Kynvett applies to be placed on the reserve list of officers, and his application is accompanied by an ample apology for and retraction of the letter written by him, the Commandant of the Forces (General Godley) will, in view ot the previous excellent record ot Captain Knyvett, be prepared to recommend that favourable consideration be given to the application. It is also stated that a similar course, upon the same conditions, will be adopted in the Taranaki case, in which I an officer was dismissed upon a charge
of instigating a letter in a newspaper criticising his superior officer.
