THE DAIRYING COMPANY.
MEETING OF DIRECTORS.
The usual monthly meeting of th^ directors of the Thames Valley Cooperative Dairying Company was held this week, Mr A. C. Hubbard (chairman of directors) presiding.
The Chairman reported that a general meeting of those interested in bringing about a better state of affairs 'in connection with the pork industry had been held in Hamilton, and that this meeting had set up a sub-committee, of which he had been appointed a member, to collect all available information and data dealing with all phases of the industry. When this sub-committee, which is representative of Matamata, Cambridge, Te Aroha, Hamilton, Waipa, and Thames Valley, have completed their investigations they will report the result to a general meeting, which meeting will decide what further steps are to be taken. Mr Hubbard, said that the general feeling seemed to favour the formation of a co-operative company on a large scale, with headquarters at Frankton. He intimated to the sub-committee thai if this were done the people in the lower Thames Valley, he thought, would be pleased to temporarily support the scheme, but that they were looking forward to the time in the near future when their district would be able to support works of this description of their own, and having the advantage of cheap water carriage local works would be more advantageous to them. The unsatisfactory state of the Home | market during the past season.was discussed, and it was the general opinion of the directors that the butter made from home separated cream, that now represents a fairly large proportion of the export butter, was to some extent responsible for the state of the market. The directors were strongly of the opinion that butter from home separated I cream was not equal to creamery butter, and that the export of home separated butter had the eftect of depreciating the market. They considered that it was not in the best interests of the industry that this butter should be sold as dairy butter. It was decided that the chairman take all the necessary steps to have the question of distinguishing marks being placed on butter made from home separated cream thoroughly discussed at the National Dairy Association's meeting at Palmerston North next month. Payments for the month of April totalled as against .£3687 for April of last year. The falling off is accounted for by the dry_ weather experienced some time ago^fflrtausing a scarcity of feed. The payments to the suppliers to the various creameries last month (omitting shillings and pence) were as follows :—-Netherton. .£4BB ; Wharepoa, Waitoa, Matatoki, ; Hikutaia, £344; Manawaru, £317; Paeroa, Turua, £177; Ngarua, Wardville, ;£uo.
