SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT.
A special meeting of the Paeroa School Committee was held yesterday afternoon to consider the applications forwarded by the Board of Education for the position of first assistant in the secondary division of the school in place of Mr C. Meredith, who has been transferred to Cambridge. Mr W. Niccol presided, and the other members present were Messrs Black, Buchanan, Dean, Donovan, Ellis, McWatters, and Brunskill (honorary secretary).
- There were four applications for the position, and the Education Board recommended Miss M. Craig, at present assistant teacher at the Normal School, Auckland. It was unanimously decided to agree to the Board's recommendation, and to request that the teacher take up her duties on June ist, this being the date on which Mr Meredith will commence his duties at Cambridge. Miss Craig's testimonials are very satisfactory, and before coming to New Zealand she had considerable experience in the teaching profession in Scotland.
On the motion of Mr Brunskill, it was decided to write to the Board of Education expressing regret at Mr C. J. Parr's retirement from the Board, at the same time congratulating Mr Parr on his election to the position of Mayor of Auckland.
