FOOTBALL.
SATURDAY'S MATCHES
Saturday's senior match under the Paeroa Rugby Union was played at Netherton between East and Netherton, and resulted in a draw, each side scoring
three points. East's score was a try secured by M. McGeehan, who followed up a high kick and grounded the ball over the line. The score by Netherton was obtained by V. Morrison as the result of a forward rush. In each case the kick at goal was a failure. The rough state of the ground spoiled what would have otherwise been a good exhibition of football, and it was fortunate that no serious accident occurred. Mr C. Mettam refereed in his usual style, and gave every satisfaction. Being the first cup match played at Netherton, it was celebrated by a dinner in the evening given by the Netherton Club to the visiting team, the Paeroa Rugby Union committee also being invited, and great credit is due to the club and their lady friends tor the manner in which it was carried out. .The following toasts were honoured : — " The King," " Paeroa Rugby Union," " The Ladies," " Visiting Team," and " The Referee." Musical items were given by Messrs Morrison, Kilhck, Middleton, and Frogley. The very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of " Auld Lang Syne."
The junior match played at Paeroa between West and Netherton resulted in an easy victory for the West team by 15 points to nil. Mr W. Sorensen was referee.
