RAILWAY TIMETABLE.

ALTERATION SUGGESTED.

At the meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce on Friday night, a letter was received from the secretary of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce, asking the Chamber to assist it in requesting the Railway Department to have an alteration made in the railway time-table. The suggestion was that a train should leave Frankton for Thames about 6 a.m., and that the return train should leave Thames for Frankton about 4 p.m. Mr Hanna moved that the accion of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce be endorsed. Mr Dixon said that while they might like to assist the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce, they should consider the local requirements also. Seeing that Waihi was the largest town in the district, they might consider how.the alteration would aflect that town. It might j be better to have the train from Frankton arriving at Paeroa so as to catch the 10.50 a.m. train to Waihi. The President (Mr W. McWatters) pointed out that that would mean an extra train. The idea of the proposed alteration was to enable passengers from Wellington to arrive at their destination, more quickly. Mr Dixon said that in that case they might get the train to leave Frankton at 4 a.m. Mr de Castro suggested that they postpone discussion on the matter until they find out exactlyhow the alteration would affect Paeroa. ! Mr Hanna said that the only effect of the proposed alteration would be ro extend the present service. Mr Brunskill seconded the motion. Mr Gillman said there would be more chance of getting an extension of the present service (as suggested) than of having extra trains run. Mr Dixon suggested that if the department would not agree to the suggested alteration, it be asked that the present ir.io a.m. train from Frankton to Paeroa be despatched two hours earlier. Mr Hanna said that if the alteration asked tor was made they would get the Auckland and Wellington mails delivered in Paeroa about nine o'clock in the morning. Mr Towers said he understood there was a proposal at Te Aroha to do away with the 3.5 p.m. train that arrived at Paeroa about 7 p.m., and if that occurred

it would do harm to Paeroa.

Mr Hanna said that the " wild cat" to Paeroa in the evening was bound to run because of the goods traffic.

Mr Towers pointed out that if the 5.40 p.m. train went through to Franklon, the department might take off the " wild cat" to Frankton in the evening.

Mr Nicholas said that the department would not run the 11.10 a.m. train from Frankton any earlier because it connected with the Rotorua train.

The motion to support the suggestion of the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce was then put and carried, with 'the addition that the department be requested not to interfere with the present timetable of the " wild cat " train.
