RIVERS IMPROVEMENT.
AN ENGINEER APPOINTED
The following letter, dated 26th April, has been received by Mr H. Poland, M.P., from Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister of Public Works, regarding the matter of the appointment of an engineer to take charge of the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers improvement works:—
" Referring to my telegrams ot 3rd March and 6th inst., I have now the honour to advise you that the position of assistant engineer in local charge of the above-mentioned works, under the
general direction of the District Engineer, Auckland, has been offered to and accepted by Mr H. R. Young, who is an associate member of the Institution of Civil Engineers, and a licensed surveyor, and who has had experience of similar work in other countries. Mr Young is expected in Wellington in the course of a day or two, and will leave
for the scene of his new duties at an
early date."
Mr Poland also received a telegram from the Minister on the 28th inst to the effect that the engineer will probably arrive in: the district this week.
