• The football match at Paeroa on Saturday between Netherton and West resulted in a win for Netherton by three points (a try) to ml after a closely contested game.

A reminder is given of the Catholic Social in the Criterion Theatre to-mor-row evening. The prizes for the euchre tournament in connection with the social are on view in Mr Jackson's shop window. Applications tor registration under the Defence Act, 1909, are not coming in as promptly as anticipated. The attention of all persons required by the Act to enrol is called to an advertisement appearing in this issue, and we trust it will not be found necessary to enforce the penalties mentioned therein for failure to enrol. Forms of registration may be obtained at any post-office or police-station.
A stray clog got locked in a Hamilton millinery establishment one night last week, and the effect ot its perignnations on re-opening was, as can be wellimagined, somewhat ludicrous. Unaware that the canine had been incarcerated for the night the proprietress on putting in an appearance in the morning, at first imagined a raid had been made by a local band of " crackits," but the fact of a half masticated hat lying dejectedly upon the floor, and rolls of ribbons uncoiled in a series of crosshatchings over the counters, while a medley of ladies' hose and fringe nets was scattered in untidy heaps about the show loom entirely dispelled the first theory. The cause of the disruption was peacefully snoring under one of the counters, when his slumbers were rudely disturbed and he was deposited rather unceremoniously over the yard wall.
