HOCKEY NOTES.
[By Bully.]
It is with pleasure that I am inforfHfcr' ;hat the Paeroa Hockey Club has re-
ceived a very generous offer from its president, Mr R. W. Evans. The ofter takes the form of " stars " and a handsome shield, and the conditions of completion have been left in the hands ot the committee. lam informed that it is the club's intention to select two or more teams from its members and these teams are to compete against each other for a certain number of matches, the winners at the end of the season to hold the " stars " until the following season, when the competitions will again be held to decide the "star" holders. The names of the winning team each year will be engraved on the shield and thus a record will be kept of their
achievements,
I hope that the president's offer will be the means of urging members on to greater efforts and it behoves every player to get quickly into training for the " stars " and shield matches wliich will be commenced at an early date.
The pleasing feature of the club this season is the marked enthusiasm amongst the new players, who are all shaping very well, and before long will be first-class players.
