WARDEN'S COURT.

Applications were granted as follows : —Henry Shechan, protection for six months for Maratoto Consolidated special cl&m and Walker's Maratoto special claim at Maratoto; Albert Edward Wight, residence site at Karangahake; Silverstream Mines, Ltd., permission to work Silverstream special claim at Marototo with eight men for six months; Silverstream Mines, Ltd., extension of tune for six months for commencement of work on the battery side at Maratoto. The following application was recommended for the Minister's consent: —W. E. Cayley-Alex-ander, protection for six months for Yankee special claim at Maratoto.
The New Zealand Cinnabar, Ltd., applied for the Ascot and Golden Giant special claims at Mackaytown, Mr T. A. Moresby appearing for the applicant company. The ground is at present held by the company under mineral licenses, aud cinnabar is being obtained. It is for the purpose of mining for gold and silver also that it is desired to take the ground up under special quartz claim licenses. Mr J, Collins, manager for the applicant company, gave evidence that gold and silver, as well as cinnabar, exist on the ground, some of the assays of gold being as high as per ton. The applications were adjourned so that the consent ot holders of occupation licenses may be obtained.
The New Comstock G.M. Co. (Mr Clendon) applied for protection lor six months for the Comstock special claim at Karangahake, for change of purpose of a water race at Karangahake, and for protection for six months tor the water race. W. R. Homes, legal manager for the New Comstock G.M. Co., stated that the company had spent nearly £7000 on the property, and previous companies had spent between ;£ 11,000 and £ 12,000, and without result. The company has now decided to work from an adjoining property, but it would be from eight to ten months betore the other company would be in a position to let them commence the work. Regarding the water race, they desired to change the purpose for which it was granted. It was granted tor the purpose ot driving the electric plant at the Tramway Hotel, and the company acquired the right by purchase, and now desired to use the water for minipg purposes. The water would not be required while the claim was under protection. The Warden granted the application for protection for the claim, and recommended the other two applications to the Minister.
Ernest Montgomery (Mr Hanna) sued James O'Brien for £2 16s lor rent of a building at Karangahake. Defendant did not appear. Judgment was given for plaintiff for £2 6s (10s having been paid off the debt) and costs 19s 6d.
