" All Chinese newspapers in Nanking to ’ay lauded the Government victory in the west. They said Nationalist forces had completely annihilated one Communist division after bitter fighting near- Luilin. Nationalists claim that more than 2000 Communists surrendered. . Despatches from Kaifeng report bitter fighting in the city of Shankow following heavy attacks launched by Communist forces estimated to number 20,000.
