Brilliant Australian Pacer
JOHNNIE LAWN WELL PLACED Those who intend to follow a number of horses during the holiday meetings will, no doubt, have the name of the brilliant Australian pacer, Johnnie Lawn, down on their list, and with very good reason. After three unplaced starts in the Dominion, the Lawn Derby horse was brought to the Forbury Park meeting and, although he slewed right across the field at the start of the Dominion Handicap, he quickly sped to the front and won by the proverbial street. Johnnie Lawn had his next start in the Final Handicap on the opening day of the New Zealand Cup meeting, but failed to leave the barrier. On the second day, however, he won the November Handicap, in 4.23 from a 4.32 mark. He was started in the Australasia Handicap on the third day of the meeting, but lost his chance through running into trouble. On the concluding day of the Cup meeting he finished second to Jackie Guy in the Durham Handicap, his time being 4.21 from a 4.29 mark. The handsome Australian pacer has two engagements at the New Brighton meeting on Saturday and has also been nominated for the Auckland Cup.
