ACCUMULATION OF CARGO

APPEAL TO CLEAR SHEDS IN HOLIDAYS P.A. . WELLINGTON, Dec. 9. Approximately 62,000 tons of overseas cargo, together with unusually heavy coastal shipments, are expected at Wellington during the. Christmas holiday period. In an effort to ensure that goods are handled as quickly as possible, the Cargo Control Committee is appealing to merchants, carriers and union representatives to arrange for staffs to be available to take delivery of goods from the wharves to warehouses or the railway goods shed. Ample wharf labour is expected to be available, and the appeal to merchants is that, on a voluntary basis, they should retain sufficient staff to keep the goods moving from the wharves so that unloading will not be delayed by lack of shed space.
