Fixing of Maximum Weight
SHOULD ATTRACT CHAMPIONS That the Dunedin Jockey Club is prepared to play its part in the sporting section of the centennial celebrations has been proved by its decision to give a stake of £4OOO and a cup valued at 200 guineas for the Centennial Cup, to be run in February. The stake is the richest ever raced for south of Christchurch and should attract the best class of horse in the Dominion. The fixing of the maximum weight at 9.12 will be generally applauded as it should tempt such brilliant performers as Beau le Havre and Signal Officer, two of the “stars” at the New Zealand Cup meeting. The meeting of these two would, no doubt, attract thousands of enthusiasts to the city. The club has one of the best courses in the Dominion and the centennial meeting should put Wingatui “right on the map.”
