NEW DEVELOPMENT FROM ATOMIC ENERGY USE IN MEDICAL RESEARCH -■ ' WASHINGTON, Dec. T. ' A wide variety of newly-produced “ tracer ” materials for use in certain medical and other research where radio-active tracers are too dangerous or otherwise unsuitable, was made widely available yesterday by the United States Atomic Energy Commission. They were formally called "stable isotopes,” but actually they are “ cool ” atoms in contrast to radio-active “ hot stuff.'.’ Only five such stable isotopes were previously available. The commission to-day released over 100 additional ones. The commission said that, besides their tracer use, they would accelerate fundamental research designed to solve the still stubborn mysteries of the atomic world.
