Albion-Y.M.C.A. Fail Against Carisbrook

CENTURY TO OTTWAY With the completion of the third series of matches in the Otago Cricket Associations’ senior competition on Saturday the positions of the teams were altered. With a five-point win over Grange, High School Old Boys took the lead. An unexpected feature of the afternoon was the total collapse of Albion-Y.M.C.A. against Carisbrook. Carisbrook’s outright win brought it up from fourth position to share second place with Grange. The matches were played in fine weather, but the wickets were soft after rain. H. Ottway, the former Old Boys ’player, scored 101, not out, in North East Valley’s second innings against Kaikorai. He made 58 on the first day. Other good individual batting performances were those of I. Payne (Grange) 81, D. C. McDonald (Dunedin) 59, W. Haig (Grange) 53, not out, and J. M. O’Sullivan (Dunedin) 49. Playing for Carisbrook against Albion-Y.M.C.A., R. Carter took six wickets for 20 runs, and in the same match A. R. Knight took five Albion wickets for 31 runs. The championship points are:—Old Boys 20, Grange 16, Carisbrook 16, University 11, North-East Valley 11, Kaikorai 6, Dunedin 3, and Albion-Y.M.C.A. 1.
