NEW TREASURY APPOINTMENT MR DOUGLAS JAY SECURES POSITION Rec. 8 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 6. No 10 Downing Street announced that Mr Douglas Jay, M.P. had been appointed Economic Secretary to the Treasury, subject to Royal Assent to the Minister of the Crown (Treasury Secretaries) Bill, which the House of Commons on Wednesday passed urgently through all stages. The Times commenting on the creation of the new post, said the purpose > is to provide Sir Stafford Cripps with additional ministerial assistance in his heavy duties as Chan- . cellor and Co-ordinator of Economic Policy. Until the new post was created, the only ministerial assistance available to Sir Stafford Cripps was from ’ Mr W. G. Hall, Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
