American General Expresses Fear Of Another War
SAN FRANCISCO, Rec 10 p.m. Dec. 6. Major-general Holland M. Smith, ’ commanding general in the capture of Iwo Jima in 1945, said that “ permanent peace might be achieved if the United States dropped atomic bombs in certain uninhabited areas of Russia to give the Russians an actual demonstration of this powerful weapon,” Major-general Smith added, however that he feared there was going to be another war because “ there had never been a way to avoid war.”
