CONSERVATIVES RETAIN SEAT LONDON, Dec. 5. The Epsom by-election resulted:— M. McCorquodale (Conservative) 33,633 R. Bishop (Labour) .. .. 17,339 D. A. Scott Cairns (Liberal) 2.121 The resignation of Sir Archibald Sowerby (Conservative) because of ill health caused the by-election. The Conservative majority at the general election was 6548. Commenting on the result, Mr McCorquodale said: “ I am not surprised at the size of my majority. 1 asked for and received it not only as an expression of dissatisfaction with the Government’s failures but as support for our forward progressive Conservative policy.” ‘
