UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE

Large sections of the city and Ravensbourne were plunged into darkness last night whan power in two circuits of the Ward street sub-station failed. The faults occurred almost simultaneously at 9.35 p.m., -but electrical repair gangs were quickly called out and the fault in the circuit affecting Ravensbourne was soon found. The other fault which affected the north end of the city and the Maitland street district was more difficult to locale, and it was not until after midnight that the full services were restored. According to information given to the Daily Times, the trouble had developed in the lines feeding the,Otago Harbour Board’s dredge Vulcan. It was stated that the work of the repair crews was made doubly difficult by the wet night. In conversation with the city electrical engineer,. Mr G. T. Edgar, last night a Daily Times reporter was told that it was a peculiar happening for two faults to develop more or less simultaneously.
