FRESH ALLEGATION

MONEY FROM BOOKMAKERS CHARGES AGAINST TASMANIAN PREMIER Rec. 10 p.m. HOBART, Dec. 5. The allegation in the Tasmanian Legislative Council that bookmakers had paid £SOO to Mr James Cosgrove, Premier of Tasmania, suggested the presence of a racket. Mr Reynolds, K.C., told the Royal Commission today. His request that the inquiry be extended to embrace this fresh allegation against Mr Cosgrave was rejected by the Royal Commissioner. The commission is inquiring into allegations by a service car proprietor that he paid £5400 to Mr Cosgrave on behalf of himself and other operators. In the Legislative Council, a member alleged that £SOO had been paid to the Premier by Tasmanian bookmakers to delay the Bookmakers’ Bill six months and that when the Attorney-general, Mr R. Fagan, heard of this, he had insisted that the money should be repaid.
