TROTTING NOTES

By the Sporting Editor December 13 .. .. New Brighton T.C. December 26 ~ .. Ashburton T.C. December 26 .. .. Gore T.C. Jottings There are no totalisator trotting meetings Democrat will be much further back in the assessments befor.e the present season is over. Her Best Race Marcia ran her best race for some time to finish third over two miles at Hutt Park last Saturday, and she may be returning to her best form. She appreciates soft going. • Promising Trotter Big Guy should not be long in winning a loose-class trot for F. J. Smith. A four-year-old gelding by Josedale Grattan, he was got from Pearl Parrish, by Guy Parrish from Bell Bingen, by Bipgen from Berthabell, by Peter thq Great. He has speed but as yet does not always control it. Doubtful at Barrier ’

Henry of Navarre is liable to add to his handicap by dwelling at the start ot a race, but once on the way he can pull out a fine turn of speed. The Springfield Globe four-year-old will probably settle down with age and the tighter classes will not be beyond him then. • Has the Speed The Jack Potts gelding worthy Ace should not be off the winnfng lfst very much longer. He is not the most reliable of pacers, but he has the speed to carry him further back in the handicaps, He is on the front of a 4min 49sec class at New Brighton. Likely Favourite If Johnnie Lawn goes to the post for the Members’ Handicap at the New Brigh-. ton meeting next week the public should have little difficulty in locating the favourite. The class is 4min 30sec and he is giving away 24 yards. At Tapanui Tayside should not find it beyond him to give away 24 yards to the company he will meet in the Fassifern Handicap at Tapanui. Arawa Lad In 23 starts last season Arawa Lad’s only plaeings were a second, two thirds and a fourth. The aged U. Scott gelding is engaged at Tapanui, but is unlikely to be one of the favourites. Forbury Park Programme The Forbury Park Club's programme’for its summer meeting on January 24 and 31 is in circulation, giving trainers and owners plenty of time to ponder over it by nomination day on January 8. San Fernando Among those engaged at the non-totc meeting at Wairio to-day is San Fernando, an attractive three-year-old by Dillon Hall frrm Fortunate. He is a candidate for the Winter Juvenile Stakes and will race in the interests of Mi W. R. Hamilton, who has already .von the classic with Mandrake and Glengarry.

Ashburton T.C Nominations.—Nominations for the Boxing Day meeting and final forfeits for the New Zealand Champion Stakes. 1947. close with the Secretary, Ashburton, on Monday, 3th inst., at 8 p.m.—Advt. -
