BALLET SEASON

FINAL PROGRAMME PRESENTED There was not a large audience at His Majesty’s Theatre last night when the Borovansky Ballet presented its final change of programme, but it was extremely generous in its applause. It looked to be . one of the bestbalanced programmes in the making yet presented during the company's present visit to Dunedin, and it was unfortunate that owing to a power shortage the audience was denied the pleasure of seeing the Spanish comedy conception, “L’Amour Ridicule,” and only a portion of Laurel Martyn's lovely “ Sigrid,” but the two comSleted ballets, “ Fantasy On Greig’s oncerto in A Minor ” and “ Terra Australis,” were both extremely satisfying interpretations, though the themes' were vastly different. “ Terra Australis,” which was having one of its first presentations in the Dominion, is an attempt, through the art of the choreographer, to' portray the coming of the explorer to Australia. It was full of,the colour and zest of life but the presentation will be remembered chiefly for the realistic performance of Vassilie Trunoff, who, as the Aboriginal, appeared to identify himself completely with his part Kathleen Gorham, as Australia, invested her. part with charm, and Martin Rubinstein, as the Explorer, gay and resplendent, gave an apt characterisation. ■ : In an. entirely different mood was the Fantasy on Greig’s Concerto, the theme, being the well-worn one. of man's struggle with temptation and desire. To the sensuously exquisite music of Greig this gorgeously kaleidoscopic piece shimmered and glowed and provided Tamara ' Tchinarova, Vassilie Trunoff, Jonet Wilkie and Kathleen Gorham with a wealth of opportunities. The programme will be presented twice to-day, at a matinee, and a night performance.
