DOMINION SHEEP CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT OF IRRIGATION IN SOUTH ISLAND p.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 5. The Dominion’s sheep-carrying capacity would be substantially increased if irrigation were developed in Canterbury and Central Otago, said Mr W. L. Newnham, soil conservation authority, when he gave evidence before the Royal Commission on sheep farming. Mr Newnham was representing the Commissioner of Works in .Canterbury. He said some difficulty was being experienced in persuading farmers on the plains to adopt irrigation. He thought the commission should look into this matter.
