GREAT DISPLAY
CENTENNIAL FIREWORKS SELECTION OF SITE TO-DAY For its centennial fireworks display on February 28, Dunedin is going to have one of the most spectacular exhibitions ever organised by Brocks’ Crystal Palace Fireworks, Ltd., which has practically monopolised the fireworks industry for many years. Mr C. D. Brock, factory manager of the firm, who, with Mrs Brock, arrived in Dunedin on Wednesday night, will inspect various sites in the city to-day to decide where the display will take place. Preparations will be started when technicians arrive from England in January. “The exhibition of fireworks for your centenary will be the biggest I have directed personally since the exhibition given in Bombay in 1919,’’ Mr Brock told the Daily Times yesterday. “We’ll fire the whole lot off quickly, or make it last—whichever the Dunedin people want.” Various features of the display were described by Mr Brock. For instance, huge illuminated portraits of the King and Queen would be lifelike in their effect. Thirty-feet wheels with an extra 15-feet spread of fire would be revolving and previous rocket displays seen in New Zealand would be eclipsed by “ bombshells,” about 50 inches in circumference, that would burst in midair. “The Man on the Flying Trapeze” and fighting cocks would be other features of the exhibition.
Mr Brock emphasised that in choosing the site, “ safety first ” would be a most important factor.
