FREIGHTER DEPARTS

MEN’S GRIEVANCES SETTLED P.A. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 4. The freighter, Algonquin Park, the departure of which from Lyttelton was delayed by the refusal of the crew to take her to sea until claims for-im-provements in their living conditions were met, sailed early this afternoon for London, via Newcastle and South Africa. Mr T. Martin, the Lyttelton agent for the Seamen’s Union, who represented the crew in the dispute, said that the claims of the men had been met in full. Mr Martin added that the hold-up of the ship would not have occurred had a more reasonable attitude been adopted earlier towards the grievances of the men.
