WANTED “SMARTLY”
ANOTHER WAGE INCREASE P.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 4. “We want another £1 a week for the workers of New Zealand and we want it smartly,” said Mr T. Hill, secretary of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union, reporting to-day on the decisions of the biennial conference of the union. Mr Hill said the conference endorsed the policy of the Federation of Labour in seeking another wage increase and believed that it shotild be a full £l. “The recent 10s is already gone in higher prices,” said Mr Hill, “and the new increase must be accompanied by a rigid control of prices.”
