NEW NURSES’ HOME
PROGRESS OF WORK ALTERATIONS TO EXISTING BUILDING The contractors, the Love Construction Company, are in the process of completing the concrete frame for the Dunedin Hospital new nurses’ home in Castle street. When finished, the building will provide an additional 100 staff bedrooms, sitting rooms, serving rooms, dining rooms, and also a room with facilities for the preparation of supper. The rooms on the upper floor of the building will have a commanding view of the city and harbour.
Plans are being prepared by the architects. Messrs Mason and Wales, for alterations to, and remodelling of, the existing nurses’ home in the block between Cumberland street and Castle street.
These alterations provide for ’ a modern cafeteria for the staff, new rooms for clean and soiled linen, and a room which will be set aside lor visitors and in which the staff will be able to entertain their personal friends. After the drawings are approved by the Health Department, it is hoped to begin the work some time in the new year.
