OAMARU DRAMA CLUB

One-act Plays There was a large and appreciative audience in the Scottish Hall on Wednesday night, when three one-act plays were presented by the Oamaru Drama Club in aid of food for Britain. The first, “ Nicodemus,” a comedy by Joe Corrie, was the story of a young man who decided on his wedding day that he did not wish to marry. When he was finally persuaded to go through the ceremony he found that his bride-to-be had eloped with the best man. The cast was: Jonathan Greenwell (a country joiner), Ron Sowden; Matilda Greenwell (his wife), Doris Lawrie; Nicodemus Greenwell (their son), Lester Howell: Mr Giles (the vicar), William Laing; Luke Greenwell (Jonathan's father), James Weir; Emma Hollycock. Sara Mason. The producer was Rita Elder.

“ Members of the Jury,” by Stuart Ready, dealt with a woman acquitted of a charge of attempted murder who reenacted her crime five years later. The cast was: Margaret Akers. Tira Sowden: Mary, Louise Kaye; Hon. Mrs Meadows, Gladys Stevenson; Miss Prince, Josephine Dowling; Paula Stehbings, Rita Elder; Grace Armitage, Janet Wilson. “ Members of the Jury ” was produced by Elsie Kennedy. “ Husbands Supplied,” by Falkland L. Cary, was a comedy about the activities of the “ Husbands Supplied ” matrimonial bureau. The producer was W. Carson, and the cast was: Mrs May, Marion Gardiner; Miss Jones, Nancee Curwood; Miss Wuff. Doris Kent; Mrs Bee, Kathleen Harrison: Miss Waff, Ida MacPherson; Miss Crunch. Jessie Mackie; an old lady, Winifred Gilbert: ” The Man,” George Drummond.

The Drama Club’s 1948 season will open with the presentation of Noel Coward’s play, "This Happy .Breed.”
