NOTES FROM RICCARTON GOOD MILE TRIAL BY AGANEV Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 4. The weather was fine for the final fast work at Riccarton this morning, but a cold easterly wind sprang up after breakfast. Most of the galloping was done on the outside of the course, but some horses went on the plough. All the mile trials were on the course. The best was when Aganev beat Long-sword-and Catterick Bridge by two lengths in lmin 42 3-ssec, with an even pace. Signal Officer and King’s Ransom were a length iri front of Tweedside in lmin 43 2-ssec, the last half In 49 3-ssec. Fine Night and Detain did similar time, coming home in 51sec. Authentic and Kartikeya followed in lmin 44sec, the last half in 50sec. Salmon Spear beat Responsive by half a length in lmin 44 4-ssec, the last half in 50 3-ssec. Chaka was too good for Blue Hussar in lmin 45 3-ssec. Artful Maid took lmin 46sec, Spare Part lmin 46 4-ssec, coming home in 52 4-ssec, while Kill Fast was a neck in front of Shere Khan. and Sorry in lmin 47 2-ssec, the last half in 50 2-ssec. Indian Dawn and Beechwood were on terms at the end of the best seven furlongs, run in lmin 27 2-ssec, the- last four in 49 4-ssec. Gay Stroller did lmin 28 4-ssec. Distinction and Renowned were not hurried in lmin 30 3-ssec, while Pageantry beat Polka in lmin 32 l-ssec. Palm Bearer went exceptionally well in a brilliant run over six furlongs in lmin 13sec. Banshee shaded Zorro in lmin 1G 2-ssec, Le Sonnet followed in lmin 18sec, while Morning Watch beat Avignon in lmin 18 2-ssec. Wantwood beat Castlebrae by a length in the fastest five furlongs in lmin 2sec. Soar shaded Maka Maka in lmin 2 l-ssec. Confidence Trick and Kinlass were on terms in lmin 3sec, while Glen Cona beat Village Beauty by three lengths in lmin 4sec. Good Shot and Musselman sprinted halt a mile in 48 3-ssec, Valley Gold doing 48 4-ssec. Deficiency was well clear of Profane in 49sec, and Celtic Chief was clear of Top Deck in 49 l-ssec, which Balkis and Metif equalled. Cipher beat Wild Knock by a neck in 50sec, equalled by Finigin by himself. Conclusion beat Terminate in 51sec, General Argosy taking 51 4-ssec, while Discord went easily in 52 2-ssec.

On the No. 6 grass track Sedgmere and Flying Control ran five furlongs in lmin 2 4-ssec, the last half mile in 49 l-ssec. On the plough Miss Medley and Lady Welbeck were on-terms over seven furlongs in lmin 31 3-ssec. while Rosswood. joined by Julius Caesar for the last five, took lmin 32 l-ssec.

Rahine was seen to advantage over six furlongs in lmin 14 4-ssec, the last half mile in 50 l-ssec. Excellency and Thimble finished together in lmin 15 4-ssec, the last half mile in 50 3-ssec, but the former seemed to be going the better of the pair. Citril and Primitive were three lengths in front of Fort Silver in lmin 16sec, the last half mile in 49 3-ssec. Merry Robin and Sailor Boy took lmin 17 3-ssec, Blank Cheque lmin 18sec, Blue Trout going easily in lmin 19sec, which Fairhomg and Mesalliance equalled. Howe and Soneri went about a mile, the last six furlongs in lmin 16 l-ssec. John Gay ran five furlongs in lmin 3sec, The Stormovik and Nightchild taking lmin 3 2-ssec, and Palomino lmin 3 3-ssec. Lovemorn was too good for Leadership over half a mile in 50 l-ssec, Beau le Havre going very easily in 53 2-ssec. Royal Tan, Dark Arrow, Faithful Pal and Magnaform did useful work the reverse way on the course. The Southland mare, Desert Girl, will not be started in the Members’ Handicap. She has not got over the effects of striking herself behind a knee during the running of the Jockey Club Handicap. Deep Harmony, who is feeling the effect of the hard groutld, piay be allowed to miss his engagement in the Members' Handicap unless the track becomes easier. Leadership has joined the team of F. and A. H Christmas, and after a race on Saturday he will be gelded and given a spell.
