INCREASED STAKES
CANTERBURY SUMMER MEETING ■t Special to the Daily Times CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 4. It Is expected that starting stalls will be in use at the summer meeting of the Canterbury Jockey Club in February, at least at four of the starting barriers—the five, six and nine furlongs, and the mile and a-quarter. The programme for the meeting was passed this week, the stakes being increased by £6OO. Seven races, will receive a share, the only exception being the Midsummer' Handicap, which remains at £IOOO. The Middle Park Plate, of six furlongs, a race first run in 1884 and for most of the time for two and three-year-olds, has had Its conditions completely revised. In future it will be a mile race for three-year-old fillies, with weights of 8.10, with a 101 b allowance for maidens, the stake this season being £7OO.
