STRONGLY CRITICISED

GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION BRITISH NATIONAL STUD N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent Rec. 9 p.m. LONDON, Dec. 4. The Government’s administration of the national stud given to the nation by-Col-onel Hall Walker was strongly criticised by Lord Rosebery, president of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, at the association’s annual meeting. Lord Rosebery was referring to a strong protest aroused among British breeders by the news that the national stud has sold Blue Train to interests in Eire and also sold Howdah to American breeders. " I know the sale of Blue Train was bitterly resented,” said Lord Rosebery. ” Surely this horse should have been kept for the benefit of small breeders In this country. The impression is growing that the national stud is simply being used by the Government as a money-making proposition.” The association adopted a motion moved by the Duke of Norfolk that the Minister of Agriculture be asked to receive a deputation to discuss the policy of the national stud.

Lord Rosebery said the value of British bloodstock sold abroad last year was over £2,000,000 and that in the first nine months of this year the value of bloodstock export sales exceeded £3,000,000. “ These are very satisfactory figures," said Lord Rosebery. "They prove what L V av 2L alwa ys maintained, that the British thoroughbred is sought the world over.
