ASSAULT CHARGE

Fine of £lO Imposed A fine of £lO was imposed bn Arthur Chapman Scott, a wharf labourer, residing at 27 Nen street, Oamaru, by Messrs J. M. Hendy and N. H. Colquhoun, Justices of the Peace, in the Oamaru Police Court yesterday. He had pleaded guilty to assaulting a female aged 19 on November 27, 1947. Detective Sergeant J. W. Hill said that the accused had approached the girl on the street about 10 p.m., taken her by the arm and “ tried to make a meet.’ “ You are lucky not to have to serve a term of imprisonment,” Mr Hendy said, " as under section 203 of the Justices of the Peace Act, you are liable to a term of imprisonment up to six months or a fine up to £20.”
