TROTTING NOTES
By the Sporting Editor December 13 .. .. New Brighton T.C. December 26 .. .. Ashburton T.C. December 26 .. .. Gore T.C Jotting The only trotting meeting to be held on Saturday is the non-tote meeting at Wairio. Improved Pacer Certainty has developed into a very useful performer for V. Alborn, who should get another stake with him at one of the holiday meetings. Showed Promise Fortitude showed promise at the Wairio meeting by finishing close to the money after being prominent throughout the running. He was got by Dillon Hall from Securus, by Quite Sure from Koi, by Guy Parrish from Heketara, by Petereta from Muricata, by Mauritius. He is engaged at the Tapanui meeting. Change of Stable Julie, who was previously trained by S T Webster for Mr T. Lawler, was transferred to J. B. Pringles’ team after racing at the Wellington Trotting Clubs meeting The winner of the Riverbank Handicap at the Methven Trotting Club’s meeting on October 4, Julie is an aged mare by Quite Sure from Bonny Betty, which is by Harold Logan from a Satmwood mare. Sister to Kildonnin Teviot Maid, the sister to Kildonnin, is engaged at the Tapanui meeting.. In her laces so far she has not justified her relationship with the better-known trotter. ’Showed Speed
Driven by his owner, M. C. McTigue, who trains him at Methven, West Point showed a lot of speed over the concluding stages of the Discovery Handicap at Hutt Park on Saturday, but he lost his chance when he broke under pressure with less than a furlong to go. A likely type, West Point is a five-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from a winner in Waress who left winners in Vimy Ridge, Plunder Bar, and Indigo to the same sire. Jack Potts Gelding Saracen, a candidate for the Fassifern Trot at Tapanui, is a four-year-old gelding by Jack Potts from Bellona. He had one unplaced start last season. Still Eligible “ Because of a possible ambiguity in the conditions for the Wakanui Handicap at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s summer meeting, I telephoned the secretary, Mr J. B. Nicoll and he advised me that horses starting for the® first time and horses which have not started seven times are still eligible for nomination,” said the secretary of the Canterbury Owners and Breeders’ Association, Mr E. G. Mitchell. The conditions for the Wakanui Handicap provide that " horses who at their last seven starts have not finished first, second, third or fourth are not eligible for nomination. Races at matinee meetings subject to the penalties under the handicapping system will count as starts.”
