NECESSITY QUESTIONED

PROPOSED FILM INQUIRY P.A. WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. That the motion picture exhibitors had not asked for the inquiry into the film industry was stated to-day by an executive of the film industry in Weilington. No one'knew, he said, wry an inquiry was necessary. There had been no dispute in the industryj but it might be that the employees wished for an inquiry into their conditions of work. The Federation of Labour, he said, had been seeking an inquiry for a long time. He added that the question of a monopoly in the industry was something over which the exhibitors had no control. The monopoly aspect was due to the licensing system, by which licences were granted and no one could set up in opposition.
