UNUSUAL CONDITIONS TO CLERGYMAN’S BEQUEST

SYDNEY, Dec. 1. A bequest of £IOOO to St. Peter’s Church of England, Townsville, has a string to it. The members of the congregation have been told that the conditions forbid the celebration of Holy Communion, services of visitation of the sick, burial of the dead, and

confirmation. The minister has pointed out to the trustees that no conditions can be imposed on any Anglical clergyman except by his bishop. It is believed that if the conditions of the bequest are not carried out the money will revert unconditionally to the Salvation Army. The bequest was made by the late Canon F. G. Williams, a former rector of the church.
