SUMMER SHOW
Horticultural Society The North Otago Horticultural Society's summer show was held in St. Paul’s Hall yesterday. Entries were not large, but the cut bloom section was of a good standard and made an attractive display. Entries in the rose section were small, but there were excellent displays of poppies and delphiniums. In the rose section Mr James Robertson was the most successful cpmpetitor, gaining six firsts and winning the champion rose award. There was another good exhibit of pot plants, Mr G. S. Jones being the most successful competitor. Mrs P. M. Sellwood, H. Seidlin, Miss Nicoll and Mrs W. J. Taylor shared most of the honours in the cut bloom section. The Redcastle Cup was won by Mrs W. G Taylor, with 36J points, followed bv G, S. Jones with 33 points and Mrs E. Guthrie with 321 points Entries in the decorative section were not large, Mrs H. A. Murison. being the most successful competitor, gaining ten firsts and three seconds, while Mrs D. Mitchell received two firsts, seven seconds and three thirds. The highlight of the show was the bay exhibited by the South Hill Women’s Institute. A large variety of cut flowers and ornamental vases were artistically arranged in the bay. Entries in the vegetable section were small, but the standard was good. Mr James Robertson was also the most successful competitor in this section, winning nine firsts and gaining three seconds and a third. Eleven entries were received from pupils of the Waitaki Girls’ Junior High School for the best collection of specimens of native trees and shrubs.
