BOWLING

North Otago Centre

Messrs K. Familton and H. E. Wedde waited on the North Otago Bowling Centre on Monday night to solicit assistance for the Oamaru Services Bowling Club in the establishment of a new green in Oamaru. Messrs E. Congaiton, B Hinton, H. C. Jeffery. W. J. Currie. E. D. Watts, A. L. Murray, and F. Grant supported the application, and a resolution was passed that the centre give all possible assistance In the . establishment of the new green, the amount of the financial assistance to be determined after the Easter tournament. Mr N H. Colquhoun presided, and, in accordance with notice given, he moved that the annual meeting of the centre be held on the second Monday in September. He explained that clubs had opened their greens this year before the annual meeting in October, and this »was not desirable.—The motion was carried unanimously. The centre considered the question of the formation of an umpires’ association, and it was agreed that a meeting of bowlers be called on December 5 to discuss the proposal. , The New Zealand Association advised that Hhe application of the Kurow Club for navy blue colours had been declined. Three nominations were received for the position of sole selector, and Mr A. C. Forrest was elected to the position, the voting being: Mr A. C. Forrest 8 votes, Mr H. C. Jeffery 4, Mr G. Atkinson 2. Mr E. Congaiton suggested that a country dav should be held in Oamaru to give the selector an opportunity to see country players. Speakers mentioned that no Saturdays were available for a country day before the match against South Canterbury in February, but that it might be possible to play country teams in the Mills Shield competition in town in the second round. It was agreed that the centre should favourably consider the holding of a country day and that an endeavour be made to fit in such an arrangement next season.

Mr Colquhoun welcomed Mr Corlett, the new secretary, who has succeeded Mr H. Hay. A motion of sympathy was passed with Mr C. A. Andrew, a delegate to the centre, in his illness.
