Mrs A. A. Fairbairn returned on Sunday from a holiday in Timaru. Mrs L. G. de la Perrelle has returned from a visit to Sydney. Mrs M. Williams, Colinswood, Macandrew Bay, has returned from Wanaka.

Mrs C. W. S. Jerram, Hawthorne avenue, will return to-day from a holiday in the north.

Mrs C. G. Wilson, Gladstone road, entertained friends at a 5 o’clock party on Saturday.

Mr N. Y. A. Wales will speak on Canada at the meeting of the Dunedin Travel Club to-morrow. The hostesses will be Mesdames E. F. D’Ath and W. R. Brinsley.

Mrs H J. Beeche, of Hamilton, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs A. M. T. Dickie, will return home by air to-morrow.

Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald, president of the Otago Women’s Club, will entertain members of the executive and the chairwomen and secretaries of the various circles this afternoon.

A social evening was arranged recently by the Mornington School Parents’ Association. Parents were given an opportunity of inspecting the class rooms and of meeting the teachers of the school. An interesting and instructive address, emphasising the need for parent-teacher co-operation, was given by Miss V. Hayward. Items by Miss Wallace and the Mothers’ Club choir, followed by supper, concluded the evening.

Dr Jean Sandel, of Taumarunui and late of the Wellington and Hutt Hospitals, has passed her final examinations for F.R.C.S. (England), states a Press Association message from Taumarunui. Dr Sandel is the first New Zealand woman doctor to gain this distinction. During the past 18 months Dr Sandel has been studying in London with a medical travelling scholarship.

The final meeting for the year of the Blue Cross Society took the form of a social, which was held in the Pioneer Women’s Hall. The president, Miss R. G Barth, welcomed members and friends. Items were given by Miss Joy Stewart and Mrs C. Howison (songs), and Misses O. and E. Nieper (pianoforte duets). The Junior Blue Cross has also concluded its year and both societies will resume activities next March.'
