OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD

APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEES The, first meeting of the ne.wlyelected Otago Hospital Board was held, last night, and was attended by the chairman, Dr A. S. Moody, and Drs J. R. Fulton, D. G. McMillan, and N. H. North, Mrs Norah Ross,- Miss M. L. Roberts, Messrs John Bennetts, F. M. Howell, J. W. Dove, A. A. Reid, and A. Steel. • ’ The list of committees submitted by the chairman was approved, the following chairmen being appointed:— Benevolent, Dr D. G. McMillan; Sanatorium, Mrs Ross; Hospital, Dr Moody; Finance, Mr Reid; Joint Relations, Dr Moody; Works. Mr Steel; House, Miss Roberts; Stores Purchasing Advisory, Dr Moody; Occupational Therapy, Dr Moody; Masage, Dr Moody; Maternity, Dr McMillan. On' the recommendation of the Finance Committee, the tender of the Love Construction Company for alterations and additions to the Port Chalmers Hospital was accepted, the price being £6457. The Benevolent Committee reported acceptance of the tender of W. H. Naylor, Ltd., for the erection of a cool room, at Talboys Home, the price being £1(118. The Hospital Committee recommended that in regard to the appointment of a full-time medical officer for the Department of Physiotherapy, already approved by the board, on the suggestion of the Joint Relations Committee, applications should be invited at a salary of £2OOO per annum, and the Otago University Council should be asked to contribute towards payment of this salary.—The recommendation was approved. The Finance Committee reported that it had been advised by the solicitors that compensation moneys payable in regard to the taking over Of Marinoto were £13,500, plus £B4 13s lid, proportion of rates, insurance. 6tc. References to the work of the retiring chairman, Dr D. G. McMillan, were made by Dr Moody, who also paid a tribute to the work done by the retiring members of the board. A motion of appreciation of the services of the retiring members and of the former chairman was carried.
