BRITAIN’S COAL PRODUCTION FUEL MINISTER’S ESTIMATE N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent— Copyright Rec. 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 30. Replying to a question in the House of Commons, the Minister of Fuel and Power, Mr Hugh Gaitskell, said it was now estimated that 196,000,000 tons of coal would be obtained for the 52 weeks ending December 31, and 199.000.000 tons for tlfe 53 weeks ending January 3. At a press conference on November 18 Mr Gaitskell said the miners “ would come pretty close ” to the Government target of 200.000,000 tons by January 3. An output of 196,000,000 tons for 52 weeks would be an increase of 6.000,000 tons over the total of 1946 production.
