DRAMATIC ESCAPES
DWELLING HOUSE FIRE LEAPS FROM UPSTAIRS WINDOWS Rec. 9 p.m. PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 30. Fire trapped a sleeping family of 16, including 11 children, in an upper floor three-storey home early to-day, but all were saved in a series of spectacular leaps from upstairs windows and dramatic rescues by neighbours and firemen. An infant daughter was dropped into the arms of an unidentified milkman in the street, but in the excitement was left lying on the foolSath unattended. The fireman thought le tiny, blanket-wrapped bundle was a doll until the baby was seen to move. A nine-year-old son escaped serious injury when his leap from a window was broken by a Garbage pail in which he landed feet first. Firemen carried seven members of the family down ladders and two others descended a ladder raised by neighbours. Thirteen of the family were admitted to hospital with burns, smoke poisoning and injuries received in falls. A baby girl and a young boy are reported to be in a critical condition. "e ...
