BRITAIN MAKES START
FIRST SMALL ATOMIC PILE Rec. 7 p.m. LONDON, Nov. 30. Professor P. B. Moon, secretary of the Atomic Scientists’ Association, said that Britain’s first small atomic pile at the research establishment near Didcot, Berkshire, was producing perhaps enough heat to run one electric radiator. “It must take a good many years before one can hope to get a really important contribution to the nation’s power supply from atomic energy, but it will come in time,” he said. “Although we are a long way behind the Americans we are probably making a good start.’” '
