NEW WOOL FABRIC

DISPLAY IN DUNEDIN The arrival in Dunedin yesterday of a new fabric will give the public an opportunity for the first time to examine one of the most notable developments yet released by the woollen industry. s v The most startling and attractive changes have taken place in wool, and the woolgrower and scientist are presenting to the world the lightest, finest wool fabrics, that have ever been seen. Wool, in so fine a yarn that it cannot be woven without the help of a soluble yarn made from seaweed, has been created into a sheer firm fabric that will wash and wear and can be tailored and pleated and draped. The soluble yarn is the work of two British scientists and this yarn acts as a carrier for weaving very fine wool, but otherwise would not survive the strain of being twisted through a loom. The seaweed thread is woven with the foil to strengthen it. It is then dissolved, leaving the fine pure wool cloth. This pure printed wool material weighs ljoz a square yard. It is the lightest woven wool to reach New Zealand- and is strong, unshrinkable and uncrushable. A specimen of this development will be exhibited by the New Zealand Wool Board, in conjunction with the Dunedin woollen mills, at the display of local industries to be made iri the Otago Museum during the next few days.
