WAIPIATA SANATORIUM

COMMITTEE MEETING HELD At the monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee, Messrs E. Macdonald (chairman), J. Rodman, W. Bringans. T. Golden, W. Sutherland. B. A. Todd and Dr G. O. L. Dempster, representing the Department of Health, were present. The medical superintendent, Dr A. Kidd, reported that during October 21 patients had been admitted, 14 were discharged and 125 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the Sanatorium two patients from Southland, one from South Canterbury, two from Waitaki and three from South Otago. The secretary reported that on November 25 the associated boards had patients in the institution as follows:—Southland 56, South Canterbury 32, Ashburton 6, Waitaki 18. South Otago 3, Vincent 8. Maniototo I—a total of 124. Since the previous meeting four patients from three hospital districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 11 patients from five districts. The average number of occupied beds per day for the seven months ended October 31 was 119.7, as compared with 129.2 for the corresponding period last year. The farm manager submitted returns of milk and meat supplied to the institution during October, and advised that at the end of the month there were 33 cattle. 185 sheep and 39 pigs on the farm. Account sales of skins, hides and livestock for the month amounted to £136 Is sd. The treasurer submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments, showing that on October 31 there was a credit balance of £18,378 3s sd, which included an amount of £16,000 invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet commenced. Statements of receipts and payments for the seven months ended October 31. as compared with the amounts estimated for the period, were also submitted, the actual maintenance receipts being £9OO 14s 4d below, and the actual maintenance payments £1194 5s 3d above the estimates. Accounts and salaries totalling £2617 5s 5d were passed for payment.
