RELAY MEETING
J. ' HURRING MEMORIAL CELTIC UNITED CLUB’S SUCCESS The second relay meeting to be held in Otago by the Celtic United Harrier and Amateur Athletic Club was witnessed on Saturday on the Caledonian Ground by a good crowd. Conditions overhead were ideal and the track was reasonably fast. Teams from nine clubs competed for the J. Hurring Memorial Trophy, which is one of the finest athletic trophies in New Zealand. The winners were Celtic United with 28 points, Leith was second with 14 points, and Caversham third with 13 points. The success of the winners was due, to a large extent, to their entering a team in every event. As the objective of this type of meeting is to foster the team spirit, the names of individuals are not recorded. Distances in the field events are the aggregate of the winning team’s efforts. Entries for the women’s, secondary school and cycling events were good and competition was keen. A" bright interlude was the gymnastic display by pupils of the Christian Brothers' High School. Senior students performed very creditably on the parallel bars, juniors on the vaulting horse, and the midgets entertained the spectators with a tumbling display Trophy Events Javelin.—Celtic United 1, Anglican 2, Caversham 3.
